Communicating with other people every single day of our life is a necessity. We should know how to interact with them and socialize with them. We use different types of communication skills to convey the information or emotion we want other people to know. People who are equipped with the basics in the different types of communication skills are the people who are likely to succeed in their chosen careers which may require interaction to other people.

Communication can be categorized between verbal communication and non-verbal communication. Verbal communication refers to the way of communicating to other people through the use of our speech. We create a sound that contains a meaning or thought and the person decodes the message and gives his own feedback. Non-verbal communication is another type of communication. In this type, we use body language to convey a message, use some gestures to be able to let other people know what we feel. And to be able to communicate in this fashion, one should be able to see the person face-to face we can convey a lot of things by using our facial expressions and maintaining eye-to-eye contact. In these two categories of communication, there are different types of communication skills that one should be able to develop.

There are different types of communication skills. These types of communication skills include interpersonal skills and intra-personal skills. Intra-personal skills refer to an individual’s meditation or communication within oneself such as prayer and rituals. Sometimes we have the special moments with ourselves when we think of something on our own or try to connect to ourselves; we are practicing our intra-personal skills. On the other hand, interpersonal skills refer to a conversation between another people. It is in which you connect to other people’s thought and ideas and share each other’s point of view and perspectives.

Interpersonal communication skills can be narrowed down into focused interactions and unfocused interactions. Focused interaction occurs when there are only two persons that are conversing and coordinating with each other and unfocused interaction is when you are only observing other people around you not really talking to other people.  Focused interactions are what we do almost every hour of the day. We mingle with other people and talk to them with so many things. And unfocused interaction happen every time we are in a place where we are not familiar with and we do not know any people around it, so we tend to observe the things that happen around us.

There is also what we call mass communication. Mass communication refers to the use of different tools or medium such as social networking to convey your emotions to the people. You could also use the books, newspaper and magazines that are subscribed by many people around the globe.

These different types of communication skills are useful in our daily living. Whatever type of communications skill we use the important thing to note is that we have transmit the information we need to share.
